A historic streak to match for the Rangers

The New York Rangers will continue a three-game road trip with a clash against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena in Hockey Night in Canada (19 h HE; CBC, SNO, SNW, MSG, NHLN).

The Rangers (3-0-1) could tie the longest streak of games with at least one point to start a season in their history with a win or loss in overtime. They have collected at least one point in five consecutive games at the start of the campaign on three occasions.

Forward Artemi Panarin is the player of the hour for the Rangers, and perhaps even the entire NHL. He is tied with Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin for the league lead with 11 points (five goals, six assists) and is the first player in Rangers history to start a season with four consecutive games of more than one point. He was dominant with three goals and an assist in a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.

“I wasn’t aware of this feat of arms, but it’s great,” Panarin said after the match on Thursday. “I’m going to try to extend this. »

The Maple Leafs (3-1-0) have won three straight games after a 1-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in their season opener on October 9.

Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has five points (one goal, four assists) in his last two outings, after being shut out of the scoresheet in his first two games.
