Jil Teichmann (WTA 199) is only one victory away from entering the main draw of Roland-Garros. She beat the Chinese Sijia Wei (WTA 190) on Wednesday in the 2nd round of qualifying.

The 26-year-old left-hander, eighth finalist of the Paris tournament in 2022, won in two sets, 6-4 6-3, after 1h45′ of play. She was particularly effective on the important points, erasing six of the seven break points she faced.

Jil Teichmann, for her part, signed the break four times, concluding both sets by stealing the service of her young opponent (20 years old). She will play her place in the main draw against the Spaniard Irene Burillo Escorihuela (WTA 280).

Alexander Ritschard (ATP 184) crushed Frenchman Titouan Droguet (ATP 132), seeded no. 32, 6-1 6-3 in less than 70′ of play on Wednesday in the 2nd round. The Zurich resident will have to beat the Canadian Gabriel Diallo (ATP 166) to access the final draw at Porte d’Auteuil for the first time.

No last dance for Thiem

Dominic Thiem, finalist in 2018 and 2019, was eliminated by the Finn Otto Virtanen in the 2nd round of these qualifications. The Austrian will therefore not have the honor of participating in the final draw for his last Roland-Garros, he who has announced his retirement at the end of the season.
