The Red Devils hopefuls have several promising talents among their ranks, and Yorbe Vertessen was one of them a few years ago. At 23, the striker has not yet had the expected European breakthrough. Vertessen played for PSV Eindhoven and was loaned to Union Saint-Gilloise, before joining Union Berlin in Germany this winter. But since his arrival, Vertessen has found himself in difficulty.
A frustrating wild card role
The Belgian striker feels relegated to a joker role, which is starting to annoy him. “I’m really disappointed. I want to be more than a joker. I want to be an important player, someone who starts matches and who the coach can trust,” he confided during a interview with German magazine Kicker.
Union Berlin spent almost five million euros to recruit him, but coach Bo Svensson seems to see him more as a super replacement. However, before the international break, Vertessen started and scored an important goal in the 2-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund.
Promising training at PSV and debut in JPL
Yorbe Vertessen began his training at Westerlo before joining PSV Eindhoven’s training center at a young age. It was there that he broke through, playing 102 matches with 18 goals and 11 assists to his name. He was then loaned to Union Saint-Gilloise, where he played twenty matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Since his arrival in Germany, Vertessen has also participated in twenty matches with Union Berlin, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
Return to Jupiler Pro League?
A return to the Jupiler Pro League this winter cannot be ruled out, but the striker seems determined to establish himself in Europe.
