Valais State Councilor Roberto Schmidt will not run for a third term in the cantonal executive in March 2025. The centrist’s announcement follows that of PLR Frédéric Favre who will not be elected again either.

“Active in politics for more than 30 years, I have made the decision not to represent myself,” wrote Thursday on Facebook the man who works under the banner of the Social-Liberal Center, a centrist branch in Upper Valais.

“I am looking forward to a new, more peaceful period of life, which will allow me to devote more time to my family and friends, to music, to the sick in Lourdes, to discovering other countries and to meeting people friendly and exciting,” adds Roberto Schmidt.

In a press release, his party thanks the State Councilor, while regretting his “personal decision”. He also affirms that “he will strive to defend his seat during the elections to the Council of State in 2025”. The party will now hold discussions with potential candidates, he adds.
