Filippo Ganna won the 14th stage of the Tour of Italy, a 31.2 km time trial between Castiglione delle Stiviere and Desenzano del Garda. Second at 29 seconds, Slovenian Tadej Pogacar consolidated his leader’s pink jersey.
Double time trial world champion in 2020 and 2021, the Italian won with an average of 53.434 km/h. “I finally returned to Italy after all these years. It’s a very intense feeling. The double world champion in the specialty was only caught by the overall leader, who started the race in rocket mode. Pogacar actually had a 4” lead at the first intermediate time. After halfway, Ganna, more consistent, managed to make the difference.

Overall, Pogacar is now more than 3 minutes ahead of his new runner-up, the British Geraint Thomas and the Colombian Daniel Martinez.
