This Sunday, October 13, Didier Deschamps’ men reached the Belgian capital by air. A journey which comes a year after Philipe Diallo announced the use of the train for journeys of less than three hours.

“The systematization of train transport for journeys of less than three hours” was a commitment from Philippe Diallo, the president of the FFF, on October 19, 2023. Almost a year to the day later, the promises seem good far.

This Sunday, the Blues flew to Brussels to play their fourth Nations League match against Belgium (this Monday, 8:45 p.m.). A choice that is striking given that the capital of the Flat Country is located less than 1h30 from , via the Eurostar rails.

Too early a schedule

The timetable for the train to Brussels was considered too early by the FFF to the Team. Security reasons are also cited. This year is not the first time that the body has turned its back on the train. Already last September, the French team flew to , located just two hours by TGV. By then, the argument for player recovery had been made.

Note that Didier Deschamps’ men only used the train once, last June. The Blues had boarded a TGV towards , to challenge Luxembourg (3-0).
