The holders
Gregor Kobel: 6
It’s difficult to really blame the Swiss team’s goalkeeper for anything. Unhappy with the 1-0, powerless with the 2-0, the Zuricher especially left his team in the match twice, in front of Jovic.
Nico Elvedi: 4
No more reassuring than in Denmark, he was quickly warned. He is especially unlucky with his own goal, but he frankly does not offer enough guarantees.
Manuel Akanji: 4
Too careless, like his passivity in front of Mitrovic on the latter’s goal. Too easy at times, like when Jovic won his duel to score on goal at the start of the second period. A boss, certainly, but one who is forgotten.
Ricardo Rodriguez: 5
Any match. A few excess numbers when Switzerland was in control, but we have seen it with more personality in recent months in this Switzerland which wants to be proactive.
Silvan Widmer: 5
He was an actor in the good Swiss period, before his exit during the break (replaced by Rieder). Some interesting climbs, with a cross for Embolo which could have been decisive. But nothing transcendent either, like the yellow card he received.
Remo Freuler: 4
Activity, but in a vacuum. Races, duels, but what’s the point? If all of this doesn’t serve its partners, then it doesn’t make much sense.
Granit Xhaka: 5
He has control, and you have to give it to him. But he did not trigger enough dangerous actions, even if he remained in the match, despite the context which was always special for him against Serbia. Like the lack of Swiss creativity.
Michel Aebischer: 4
Mobile, in its flexible role, of course. But when the Swiss team has no offensive idea, there is nothing to learn from it.
Dan Ndoye: 6
Without doubt the best Swiss outfield player, because the most threatening. Always available, even if not completely right. The fact remains that he is also the one who obtains the penalty which should have put Switzerland back in the match. The national team needs him.
Breel Embolo: 3
Like his missed penalty, there is an attacker with a total lack of confidence. There is also his opportunity in the first half, which he sends wide. But beyond that, the Monaco striker is far too little present in the game. Switzerland must be able to rely on him, they cannot find him.
Zeki Amdouni: 5
He tried a little, took a few risks, but nothing enough to change the game either. When the team is not doing well, inspiration must come from players like him.
The replacements
Fabian Rieder: 5
He replaces Silvan Widmer numerically, but Dan Ndoye in the role from half-time. He is involved offensively, shoots set pieces quite effectively. But without being sufficiently concrete.
Andi Zeqiri, Ulisses Garcia, Edimilson Fernandes and Joël Monteiro did not play enough to be evaluated.
