The Union won its first trophy since 1935 this Thursday by beating Antwerp in the Belgian Cup final. “I understand the weight of history. For us, it’s our story since we arrived at the club, since we moved up to division 1. There is a lot of work that has been done, every year there are exceptional players who are with us. There are also some who have left, but today, they can also be proud because it is thanks to them that we are playing this kind of match. It’s good to leave our mark in the history of the club“, rejoices Anthony Moris, the goalkeeper and captain of the Union.

It’s been two years that the people of Brussels have missed out on a title, this victory in the Belgian Cup could free them at the end of the championship. “I’m someone who believes in destiny, it was meant to be this way. We got up again. This mental strength, I think there are few teams that can have it. We can be proud of ourselves, and that bodes well for the future. I hope we will have other great trophies in the weeks or years to come“, puts the unionist doorman into perspective.

And then, this Belgian Cup also has a special flavor for the captain. “Winning this title today in front of my family, in front of my son, it’s his first match in a stadium, it makes me cry“.

Moris had already won the Cup with Standard, but was at the time the third goalkeeper for Liégeois. It is now as a boss that the Luxembourger savors this victory, without forgetting where he comes from. “5 years ago, I was in amateur D1, the third level. I think I can be proud today, it’s through hard work, I never gave up. I always gave everything I had, even in difficult times. I have confidence in myself and in the work I do every day. People only see the 90 minutes, but behind all that there is a lot of preparation“, proudly declares the Union captain before going to brandish the trophy.
