CA Brive continues to believe in it. Solid in defense, the Brivistes played one of the best matches of the season to overthrow RC Vannes (26-21), during the 29th day of Pro D2. A prestigious success on the leader’s lawn which allows Brive to maintain its chances of going to the play-off. The Corréziens’ hinge caused suffering to the Vannes defense which no longer has its destiny in hand for first place in the Championship.
Vannes under threat from Aix-en-Provence, Brive hopes for a misstep from its competitors
After a first try from Vannes (12th), the visitors responded through young Léo Carbonneau (19) who completed a great collective action (20th) to allow Brive to take the lead. A new test for the Stuart Olding – Carbonneau hinge, the most effective in Pro D2 (15 tests). At the break, Vannes regained the advantage thanks to a try from Andy Bordelai (28th), but the Brivistes did not give up to secure a crucial victory in the race for the play-offs. Following a melee, Georges Shvelidze pierced the Vannes defense (55th), then kicks from Stuart Olding and Tom Raffy secured the 4 points.
With 71 units, Brive moved up to 6th place ahead of Stade Montois and Nevers (69 pts). To reach the play-offs, the Corréziens will have to count on a misstep from their two direct competitors on Friday, before facing Biarritz (14th) on the 30th and final day. Vannes will also have no room for error with a trip to Agen (12th) since with 88 points, they are under threat from Aix-en-Provence (86 pts with one game in hand).
