Union Saint-Gilloise won the Belgian Cup, a first since 1914. The Unionists, with Cameron Puertas throughout the match, dominated Antwerp 1-0 at the Roi Baudouin stadium in Brussels.

The Yellow and Blue won thanks to a goal from Japanese international Koki Machida in added time of the first period (45+1). Mohamed Amoura, a former Lugan player, could even have worsened the score at the very end of the game when he found himself alone against the goalkeeper, but he missed the target.

Still racing in the Championship

This is the 3rd National Cup won by the Unionists. The last success in this competition dates back to 1914. The men of German coach Alexander Blessin are still in the race for a Cup/Championship double.

Three days before the end of the playoffs, they are 3 points behind Club Bruges who they face on Monday on the next day.

Cups: Three crowned Swiss women

Three Swiss women experienced the joys of winning the National Cup. Ella Touon and Isabelle Meyer participated in St. Pölten’s victory against Austria Vienna (3-0) in the Austrian Cup, while Riola Xhemaili assisted from the bench in Wolfsburg’s triumph against Bayern Munich (2-0) in the German Cup. Note that this was the 10th consecutive Cup victory for both St. Pölten and Wolfsburg.
