National – The DFCO receives Martigues, for the last at home

The DFCO, 7th in the National, has nothing more to hope for at the end of the season, except to finish as high as possible. Friday May 10, 2024, at 9 p.m., the “Reds” host FC Martigues, for the last of the season at Gaston-Gérard. The Provençaux, second, are playing big, and can validate their rise to Ligue 2 in the event of a victory.

Ariss suspended, no last for Messi

The DFCO will have to do without its defender, Zakaria Ariss, 19, one of the revelations of the second part of the season. He is suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards. A big blow, as the Marseillais by birth is important: holder during the last sixteen matches, sometimes lateral, on the right, on the left, sometimes central. Full-back Zoran Moco, who received a knee in the back on the eve of the Sochaux match last week, is also out.

No last appearance this season either for the phenomenon Rayane Messi, 16, who has become the club’s youngest player (and scorer!). He suffers from an ischial contracture. Courted by major French and European clubs, he will leave with the French under-17 team, to play the Euro in Cyprus – against England on Tuesday May 21 (7:30 p.m.), Spain on May 24 (7:30 p.m.), and Portugal on Monday May 27 (7:30 p.m.). Rayane Messi will reunite with the Bleuets with a former Dijon player, goalkeeper Jules Stawiecki, transferred during the season to Monaco.

In the defensive sector, Benoît Tavenot, on the other hand, finds Cédric Makutungu, back from injury.

A positive series to continue

Casually, the DFCO woke up at the end of the season. The good results keep coming. Dijon remains on a series of four consecutive matches without losing when hosting Martigues, with three victories (Orléans, Red Star, GOAL FC) and a draw – last week, 0-0 at Sochaux.

Above all, we must note the defensive solidity found despite numerous injuries in this sector. The DFCO has not conceded a single goal in the last four meetings. End of season recorded for Temanfo and Cissé, withdrawal of Makutungu, no problem, the young people took over, like Zakaria Ariss and Axel Drouhin.

Martigues can celebrate the rise

The calculation is simple for Martigues: in the event of victory, the Venice of Provence club will move up to Ligue 2 – a first since 2002. Martégaux, who failed last season on the final day, could also rise in the event of a draw or defeat, depending on the results of Niort and Nancy.

“It’s a very regular, very solid team, which will improve”predicts the DFCO coach, Benoît Tavenot, welcoming “quite incredible consistency” And “extreme regularity”. Martigues can rely on an iron defense, the best in the championship, with only 26 goals conceded.

In the first legthe DFCO lost 3-1 at Stade Francis-Turcan. “We were very, very bad in the first leg, we were really upside down, with Villefranche it was our worst match”remembers the DFCO coach.

A tribute to Daniel Congré, who is retiring

The club announced it in a video published mid-week: defender Daniel Congré, 39, is ending his career. His last season was disrupted by physical problems; he only played nine games. The last one in January, against Le Mans. “Our defender will be honored before the match this Friday evening,” indicates the DFCO.

Trained and launched in Toulouse, spent in Montpellier for almost 10 years, in Dijon since 2021, Daniel Congré has played more than 620 matches in his professional career.

“It’s a career with enormous longevity, to perform for almost 20 years, it’s very rare and it’s enormous, congratulates the man who will remain his last coach, Benoît Tavenot, 8 years his senior. I am very unhappy for him this year, he really did everything to come back…”.
