This is not a bad April Fool’s joke: 33-year-old French swimmer Florent Manaudou, double bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has indeed just joined the Antibes handball club (Alpes-Maritimes) , a town he knows well since he already trains at the Antibes nautical stadium.

Super happy to be able to integrate handball into my preparation this season!

“Handball is a real passion that allows me to break the routine, take pleasure and have fun while continuing to progress physically, declared the swimmer, Olympic champion in London in 2012, on the club’s Instagram account.

“At this stage of my career, the balance between mental and physical is essential, and the fact of being able to combine swimming and handball brings me a new and motivating dynamic.”

“Training hard is important, but doing things you love to keep the pleasure in the effort is even better. Thank you to the club for the welcome, and thank you for accompanying me in this new approach to my preparation !”

On April 1, Florent Manaudou posted a video on his Instagram account wearing the jersey of Pauc Handball, the Aix-en-Provence club which plays in the first division.

A great fan of handball since his childhood, Florent Manaudou had already made a foray onto the courts in 2016, after the Rio Olympics.

Caught up by the wear and tear of the high level, he announced “put in parentheses” his swimming career in order to satisfy his first passion. He then signed up for the Aix-en-Provence team in Nationale 2, before returning to the pools almost three years later.
