Joshua Roy had a bad training camp

Joshua Roy had a bad training camp

Overall, aside from the excellence of Lane Hutson and the emergence of Oliver Kapanen, the preseason really wasn’t positive for the Montreal Canadiens.

Whether it was Patrik Laine’s injury, David Reinbacher’s injury or the horrible power play that didn’t score a goal in 30 chances, the preseason hurt.

On top of all that, several players have disappointed in this training camp.

Indeed, we expected more from certain players, who ultimately had a bad camp and a bad preseason.

Among these players, there is obviously Logan Mailloux, but above all there is Joshua Roy.

We don’t talk much about the Quebec forward, because we all take for granted that he will make the team regardless, but honestly, he has really been more than ordinary since the start of camp.

He didn’t stand out in any way, and didn’t demonstrate at all costs that he belonged in the NHL, which is a shame.

It’s really his level of commitment that leaves something to be desired.

Obviously, we all know that Roy is a type of player who will not always stand out and who will be rather invisible and disengaged at times, but he still has to demonstrate something.

It really seems like Roy came into camp with the certainty that he made the team regardless.

It’s a shame, because we all would have liked to see him with the knife between his teeth to prove that he is the one who most deserves his place in the sun, but no, he instead played like he was a veteran of several years.

Result ?

At the moment, he is behind Oliver Kapanen and Emil Heineman in my opinion, which means that he is really not the leading candidate to take Patrik Laine’s place in the top-6.

Maybe in the end, by default, it will be his place, but he clearly will not have deserved it.

All this therefore remains to be followed, while we will discover in the coming days which formation Martin St-Louis will use for its first match of the season.
