Michel Baldas, president of the club, confirmed it: “After a frank discussion with Léo, we decided to separate,” explains the person concerned, referring to a common agreement. “We parted on very good terms. » The news may nevertheless be surprising, because not many people saw it coming. The “green and white” finished in third place in the championship, with a record of 18 wins and eight defeats.
Hence a certain surprise at the announcement. However, internally, Michel Baldas is anything but surprised. Because the club already knows the replacement for Léo Sansot. This is Brice Fréon, the latter’s deputy, but also that of his predecessor Christian Ortega. “We wanted to give him a chance for a while. We thought it was wise to do it now. Léo understood our wishes very well,” indicates the president of the VBC.
Fréon is a well-known man in the Bastide. Baldas presents him as “a pillar of the club, a major element of the reserve for several seasons who then moved into coaching”. “He is part of the Villeneuvois family. » Equipped with all the diplomas, he will have to bring his touch to the VBC. Asked about the next objectives, the president wishes to “do as well or better than this season”. Contacted, Léo Sansot confirmed his departure, but “does not prefer to comment on this end of collaboration”.
