We will have to wait for Stan Wawrinka to eventually provide information to know the exact nature and severity of his injury. According to an official document from the Masters 1000 in Rome, the 39-year-old Vaudois withdrew from the tournament this Tuesday due to an injury to his right wrist. He had to face a player from the qualifiers for his entry into the running at the Foro Italico.

This is bad news for the three-time Grand Slam winner, in search of matches and confidence, less than three weeks before Roland-Garros. Arriving in the Italian capital with his Swedish coach Magnus Norman, “Stan The Man” is registered for the Bordeaux Challenger next week. It is not yet ruled out that he will next play the Geneva Open.

At the twilight of his career, the child from Saint-Barthélemy is having a complicated start to the 2024 season with 2 victories for 7 defeats. Affected in an ankle at the end of last year, Stan Wawrinka has suffered a deficit in preparation for the offseason in recent months. In particular, he has just spent a week working with his historic physical trainer Pierre Paganini.
