Invited this Monday on the “Talents of Africa” show on Canal+, Andre Ayew spoke about the challenges that the Ghana national team is currently facing.

Despite the Black Stars’ recent struggles, Ayew is confident in the potential of the younger generation of players to bring Ghana back to its former glory.

Recalling Ghana’s past successes, the Le Havre player remembered the golden era of Ghanaian football, where stars like Essien and Muntari dominated the pitch.

“We dominated for several years. I was part of this team with a golden generation. Then we had the generation of Wakaso, Gyan and John Mensah. Now there is a new generation coming”Ayew said.

He acknowledges, however, that the team is currently going through a transition phase, with a new generation of players finding themselves in the spotlight. These players, Ayew notes, do not have the experience of their predecessors, but they are under increased pressure to deliver results due to Ghana’s long absence of trophies since 1982.

“There is a lot of pressure. Despite this generation dominating, we still couldn’t win. So this creates more pressure and more demands, and the country expects more and more. Today, the players do not have the experience that the players I just mentioned have or had,” he notes.

Ayew’s optimism shines through when he emphasizes the importance of perseverance and resilience in overcoming adversity. He believes the current generation of players are gradually acclimating to the demands of international football and the weight of representing their nation. With determination and hard work, Ayew is confident that Ghana will emerge stronger from its current slump and reclaim its status as a footballing powerhouse in Africa.

“The players start by getting used to it, by understanding what it means to wear this jersey, which means a lot to millions of people. The jersey is very heavy to wear and you need to have broad shoulders. I know we will bounce back. We work. We are going through a bad time. But we’ll get through this, I’m sure.” Ayew concluded.
