A conviction for a former Toulouse player. Byron Kelleherlegendary scrum half at Stade Toulouse between 2007 and 2011, has just been sentenced to six months in prison. In question, domestic violence for the former All Black.

This conviction is accompanied by a two-year probationary suspension, as well as a fine of 1,000 euros to his ex-partner. In addition to this compensation, the former Toulouse resident will have to pay 800 euros in moral damages, still to his ex-wife.

This conviction comes almost a year after the events. In fact, these acts date from June 2023. That day, the former player who passed through the Stade Français, under the influence of alcohol, attacked his partner.

First with verbal insults, then with blows to the face and chest, according to the facts recounted by the president. Her ex-partner adds that with these blows, the 2010 European champion also dragged her by the hair.

The player disputes the accusations

Although he was convicted, the player never admitted to having carried out the blows. In court, the player with 57 caps under the silver fern tunic would have testified according to comments reported by AFP.

“In our culture, women come before everyone else. […] I don’t recognize the facts. This is not true. » A defense which did not allow the player to escape conviction.

This is not the first time that the former stadium manager has had problems with French justice. Indeed, while driving under the influence of alcohol, the player was at the heart of a scuffle in 2009. In October 2013, he was placed in police custody for drunk driving.

Four years later, he had already been sentenced for a case of domestic violence against another partner. He had to pay a fine of 200 euros.
