Anderlecht hooligans threw chairs at Real Sociedad supporters: 8 arrests

Sporting Anderlecht achieved a prestigious success against Real Sociedad (1-2) on Thursday during the second day of the Europa League. The Brussels residents achieved the feat of defeating the Basques in their stadium thanks to goals from Luis Vazquez and Theo Leoni. But this sporting performance was tarnished by the behavior of some of the 1,200 Mauves supporters.

During the first period, as soon as Sporting fell behind, Anderlecht fans threw seats from the block reserved for them towards the Basque supporters located below. This Basque stand was intended for families. According to DH, the Brussels supporters were in a block surrounded by double glazing, but hooligans managed to create a breach through the windows. They ripped off chairs and threw them towards the home fans through the hole formed.

The referee notably had to interrupt the match for a few seconds before calm returned. The police also intervened. She arrested eight Brussels supporters.

According to DH, Anderlecht apologized during the press conference after the match.

Real Sociedad ‘strongly condemns the aggression’

In a brief press release released Thursday evening, Real Sociedad “strongly condemns the aggression” on the part of Anderlecht supporters. “Real Sociedad strongly condemns the aggression suffered by our supporters on our pitch and wishes to show its solidarity with all supporters affected by tonight’s match (Thursday evening, editor’s note) against RSC Anderlecht.
