Return to Anderlecht? Vanhaezebrouck responds with humor

In the Europa League, RSC Anderlecht travels to Real Sociedad this Thursday evening. Behind the scenes, the board of directors is still looking for a new coach. However, the return of Hein Vanhaezebrouck does not seem to be on the agenda.

The level of play remaining insufficient and progress almost non-existent, both on a collective and individual level, the historic champion decided to put an end to his collaboration with Brian Riemer. A breakup that seemed inevitable for some time. But the timing was rather bad.

Indeed, the RSCA schedule is particularly busy, with matches following one another at a rapid pace. So it is not ideal for new coaches to come on board now. In addition, the season is in full swing, which does not make it easier to find successful head coaches elsewhere.

Non-transfer options

Not to mention that financial motives also play a role. A year ago, Riemer extended his contract until mid-2026 and the Mauve et Blanc therefore had to pay a certain severance fee. It seems unlikely that the club will shell out new severance pay to find a new coach elsewhere. Fortunately, there are plenty of suitable coaches walking around who are currently without a club.

Mark van Bommel, for example, is a dream candidate. Coaches like Karel Geraerts and Kasper Hjulmand are in principle free from any transfer. In Wallonia, the name of Vanhaezebrouck has been mentioned several times.

He responds with humor

The current analyst (on television) previously worked for Mauve et Blanc, but it was not a great success at the time. Today, he could take a nice revenge. Vanhaezebrouck knows the club and the league perfectly. Several elements therefore speak in its favor.

But Vanhaezebrouck himself does not seem at all interested in a new adventure at RSCA. On Thursday, he was called by Play 6 to comment on the RSCA European match. Asked about a possible return, he responded with humor. “It’s not financially possible,” Vanhaezebrouck said jokingly.
