Asked by our colleagues from L’Equipe about the exodus of English players towards the Top 14, Marcus Smith does not rule out the possibility of playing in the French championship.

Marcus Smith in Top 14? It’s not for now, but it could well happen in the future. The Harlequins playing master clearly left the door open to a future in France in the columns of the newspaper The Team : “Maybe one day I will play in the Top 14. […] One day the Top 14 will really be a possibility for me.”.

The English international was very complimentary about the French championship: “It’s an incredible championship, with this difficulty week after week, these full stadiums. Every time I had the chance to play in France, it was happiness!”.

I’m happy at Harlequins

Marcus Smith also returned to the advanced contacts he had with Racing 92 at the end of last season: “It was interesting to talk with Stuart (Editor’s note: Lancaster). For me, Racing is a historic, incredible club, with this style, this elegance in the jersey, especially the number 10, which has been worn by world-class players. I studied this option very seriously.”.

Marcus Smith, despite all these flatteries, wanted to recall his commitment with the Harlequins : “There, I am happy and at peace with myself at Harlequins”. The conductor of the London team will face this Sunday at Stade Toulousain in the Champions Cup semi-final (4 p.m.). The opportunity for him to compete for the second time this season to one of the leaders of French championship rugby after the sudden heavy defeat during the second day of the Champions Cup (19-47).
