Goaltender Jeremy Brodeur, Martin’s son, allowed the New Jersey Devils to win their first victory in the preseason calendar on Monday evening.

In a 3-1 victory for his team against the New York Rangers, Brodeur kept a clean sheet for more than 58 minutes before Anton Blidh scored to reduce the gap between the two clubs to two goals. The 27-year-old goalkeeper ended his evening of work with 29 saves.

The two formations were, to say the least, reworked. With the Devils veterans in Europe to face the Buffalo Sabres, it was instead a roster filled with players from the American League and ECHL that faced the Rangers. The Big Apple organization has not aligned its stars either.

Among the better-known names, forward Kevin Labanc was in uniform, and he had some impact by scoring the third goal of the game on the power play. Brian Halonen and Nathan Légaré also made the red light sparkle.

Dubois scorer in victory

As for Pierre-Luc Dubois, who now plays with the Washington Capitals, he scored a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

He first became complicit in Tom Wilson’s success in the opening moments of the second period, before scoring the winning goal on the power play with one second left in the middle period.

Nic Dowd was the other scorer for the Capitals, while Denton Mateychuk and Luca Del Bel Belluz provided replies for Columbus.
