NFL: The Patrick Mahomes-Travis Kelce duo carries the Chiefs (football)

Patrick Mahomes passed for 245 yards and the Kansas City Chiefs overcame a 10-point deficit in a 17-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Mahomes notably completed a 54-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy late in the first half.

Travis Kelce was targeted seven times, for 89 yards. He set a team mark for receptions, edging out another tight end, Tony Gonzalez.

Playing a 12th campaign, Kelce is at 922 receptions.

Gonzalez caught 916 balls in 12 seasons with Kansas City, finishing his career with 1,325 receptions.

Making his 100th regular season start, Mahomes was 19 for 29 in passing.

Champions of the last two Super Bowl games, the Chiefs improved their record to 4-0.

Next Sunday they will visit the Vikings, who have an identical record.

The Chargers (2-2) scored their points in the first quarter after a Carson Steele fumble and an interception by Mahomes, his fifth of the season.

After Worthy’s burst, Harrison Butker tied the score with a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Midway through the final quarter, Samaje Perine added a two-yard touchdown run.

Justin Herbert passed for 179 yards, behind an offensive line without injured regulars Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt.

Also coping with a sprained right ankle suffered last week in Pittsburgh, Herbert was the victim of two sacks by Chris Jones.

“The Chiefs are doing a great job getting to the quarter,” Herbert said. We knew it and it was expected that they would do it. I have to do better to find solutions and get rid of the ball faster. Our offensive line played well, but it’s up to us to be more efficient.”

The Chargers’ touchdown came on the heels of a Steele fumble, recovered by Elijah Mollen.

They capped the drive with a seven-yard touchdown catch from Ladd McConkey.

The Chargers also benefited from a 50-yard field goal from Cameron Dicker.
