The Chicago Bears will hold a news conference Wednesday to announce plans for “a state-of-the-art, indoor, public stadium” in the Museum Campus area near Lake Michigan.
The plans also include additional green space, with access to the lakefront.
The team said in March it was willing to provide more than $2 billion for a public stadium in Chicago.
“The future stadium will bring an (extraordinary) opportunity to our region: to stimulate the economy, create jobs, generate millions in tax revenue and have a better chance of attracting mega-events,” the president said on March 11. of the Bears, Kevin Warren.
Soldier Field has been the Bears’ home since 1971. The team’s lease there ends in 2033.
More than a year ago, the Bears spent $197.2 million to buy the site of a former racetrack in suburban Arlington Heights.
The team planned to build a stadium 30 miles northwest of Soldier Field, complete with restaurants and retail, for about $5 billion. The amount included taxpayer assistance.
