At a time when sporting initiatives are multiplying in Morocco, and in Tangier in particular, the city’s national cricket stadium, built in 2002 by the Emirati millionaire, Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, with the aim of promoting cricket in the Arab world, has fallen into disrepair.

The National Cricket Stadium in Tangier has aged sadly, due to lack of maintenance. Its wicket has been transformed into a feeding ground for sheep. A digger can be seen stuck in the mud in the outfield. Since 2013, no cricket match has been played in the stadium, notes Achkayn.

However, the National Cricket Stadium in Tangier is a sports facility that has hosted major competitions. It is the only one that has been used for senior cricket in Morocco. The stadium hosted its first international tournament from August 12 to 21, 2002, in which teams from Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka, among others, participated. In 2024, Morocco faced the Marylebone Cricket Club. Today, the stadium has been abandoned, much to the dismay of cricket lovers.
