The New York Islanders scored a victory in their final game of the regular season, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 in a game that was low stakes, but nonetheless had emotional meaning for Jeff Carter.

The 39-year-old forward scored in this game which should be the last of his career in the Hockey . All the players on the ice went to greet him before returning to the locker room.

The Ontarian had quite a journey being selected 11th overall in the 2003 draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. It was with the other Pennsylvania club that he achieved his best personal harvests, obtaining 84 points in 2008-2009.

After a brief stint with the Columbus Blue Jackets, he joined the Los Angeles Kings and won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014. He spent nearly a decade in the city of angels before heading on Pittsburgh in April 2021.

This season, Carter has 15 points in 72 games. In his career, he collected 851 points, including 442 goals, in 1,321 games.

In series with a smile

At the UBS Arena, however, it was Patrick Roy and the Islanders who laid down the law. The New York team signed an eighth win in nine games before facing the Carolina Hurricanes in the playoffs on Saturday.

Kyle Palmieri took advantage of this last duel to reach the 30-goal plateau for a second time. Brock Nelson, Casey Cizikas, Samuel Bolduc and Simon Holmstrom also shook the ropes.

For the Penguins, Michael Bunting, Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby had two points. The captain concluded the year with 94 points, one more than in 2022-2023.
