Surreal story: why did thieves only steal left shoes from a store in Germany?

A surreal story happened last Thursday at a pedestrian store in the town of Düren in Germany, not far from us. The police and residents are perplexed.

A store in a small German town located between Aachen and Cologne was robbed last Thursday. The thieves broke a window before stealing 30 shoes. But, to the great surprise of the owners and the police, they only stole left shoes.

“I find it completely bizarre. The store is often robbed but stealing a single shoe is no use,” asks a resident. “It looks like one of those stories from an old satirical magazine.”underlines a young man.

A single shoe is very difficult to sell

“We do not expect this to be the work of extremely professional thieves. A single shoe is very difficult to sell. Therefore, we do not believe that this is the intention of the perpetrators,” believes Sebastian Cremer, Düren police.

In the city, this surprising theft leaves room for all interpretations.”It does not mean anything. Either they come back and get the straight ones, or they throw the rest away.” thinks one resident. “Maybe it’s because they only have one leg.” quips a young woman.

This story, which looks like a late April Fool’s joke, still represents a loss of several thousand euros.
