Where are Emmanuel Grâce Mouambako (35 years old) and Mireille Nganga (48 years old)? According to information from Le Parisien, the two athletes from the Paralympic delegation of the Republic of Congo, as well as Mouambako’s guide (Sharon Victor Loussanga), are missing. An official reported their whereabouts to the police this weekend, indicating that they had not heard from the three people since Thursday, the date on which they were last seen in the Paralympic village. Since then, nothing.

The athletes competed in their final events on Wednesday.

According to Le Parisien, the prosecutor of Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis) has opened an investigation into a worrying disappearance and the brigade for the repression of crimes against the person has been notified. The three athletes competed well in the events in which they were aligned. Mireille Nganga did not manage to validate performances (in category F56, deficiency in the legs) during the javelin throw qualifications, on Monday, September 2. She had failed again during the shot put qualifications (in category F57, limitation of movement of one leg) two days later, on Wednesday, September 4.

Emmanuel Grâce Mouambako and his guide Sharon Victor Loussanga had finished fourth and last in their series in the men’s 100m (12”07), on Wednesday September 4. That is, like Mireille Nganga, on the eve of their last appearance. The hypothesis of a runaway would be explored by investigators.

These are not the first cases of athletes disappearing during these Paralympic Games. Rwandan para-volleyballer Claudine Bazubagira (44 years old) vanished on August 20 after failing to return to her place of residence after a dinner, thus missing the entire competition with her partners. Eritrea, for its part, reported the disappearance of the vice-president of its Olympic committee.
