Holder of a Master’s degree in international law, I realized at the end of my university career that it was important to evolve in a field that you appreciate. Overnight, I decided to put an end to my parents’ dream, who saw in me a future lawyer, to make a living from my passion: sport. Since then, I have covered transfer windows and sports news, trying to keep readers informed as best as possible.
Former member of ASSE and Toulouse, Franck Tabanou spoke about his career during a long interview with L’Equipe. Retired from the field since 2019, the former left-back revealed that OM had thought of him in 2016, in the final moments of the transfer window. But the player wasn’t really keen on the idea.
At the end of the 2015/2016 season, Franck Tabanou ended his second and final stint atASSE. After his six-month loan, the left side was supposed to find Swansea. But very quickly, the English club let him know that they no longer counted on him. Time is then running out to find a drop-off point.
Tabanou recounts the transfer that almost saw the light of day
“After my loan to Saint-Étienne from Swansea (in 2016), the club told me that it was not counting on me. I then have two years of contract left. It’s August 31, I’m at a restaurant with my wife » confided Tabanou has The Team. It was then that he received a call from his agent.
“I chose a Championship that suited me better”
The latter informed him of an interest from OM, then coached by Frank Passi. « My agent calls me to tell me that Granada is interested and Marseille too. OM offered a loan, I preferred a transfer. But I didn’t even wait for their response, I chose Spain and a Championship that suited me better » said Tabanou. The player will only stay one year Grenade.
