ASSE: a former OL player admits that the Greens torpedoed his career

Trained at OL and passed through , where he insulted ASSE, Anthony Mounier experienced his canceled transfer to Saint-Etienne in 2016-17 as a turning point in his career.

Eight years later, the memory of Anthony Mounier’s very short stint in Saint-Etienne makes us smile. But at the time, things came close to getting out of hand! On January 27, 2017, the management of ASSE announced the arrival of the winger on loan. The supporters immediately made their disapproval known, Mounier having been trained in and, above all, having had unfortunate words (“The Greens, we fuck them…”) after a victory for Nice in the Cauldron. Banners are hung on the gates of L’Etrat and the ultras try to enter the field during a match in . To avoid the worst, the leaders preferred to break the loan three days later, i.e. January 30. Interviewed by L’Equipe, Anthony Mounier reveals that there was a before and an after, for him, in his career…

“From there, I’m a bit on the decline”

“The moment that changed my career? The non-transfer to Saint-Étienne because, from there, I was in a bit of a decline. I find myself in an emergency at Atalanta where I don’t play a lot, while the Greens’ project was interesting. I didn’t necessarily feel alone because I was very, very well surrounded. And the Saint-Étienne club was very good to me. Plus, I bounced right behind (in Bergamo). I quickly turned the page and quickly moved on to something else. It was harder for my loved ones to go through this situation. I have family in , not far away, a region where they are supporters of the Greens, too. It wasn’t easy for them to read what was on the Internet, the threats… I told them to stop reading everything that was said. »

Anthony Mounier or proof that professional players must always show restraint in their comments, at the risk of getting the backlash in the head…
