ASSE – the Christmas tree: the log of the year

It's Christmas and the butfootballclub.fr editorial team is doing the traditional end-of-year review through the prism of the tree. We continue with the log of the year: the route outside ASSE during the first part of the season.

Logs and pitfalls, ASSE has experienced them throughout this year 2024 where the club first blew the heat with its return to L1, then the cold or even the icy with a very difficult first part of the season for his return to the elite. Difficulties illustrated by a catastrophic journey outside. Weakened during its first trip of the season, ASSE looked good in Monaco (0-1), despite its defeat. But what happened next turned out to be much more complicated. With to start with a heavy setback in (0-4), where Yunis Abdelhamid had confirmed the doubts born from his difficult performance against Geoffroy-Guichard against (0-2) during the previous match. Then, while ASSE had raised its head by beating (1-0), there was a historic defeat in (0-8). At the Allianz Riviera, the Greens conceded six goals in the first half, a first in an L1 match in the 21st century…

A miraculous draw in and spankings

This humiliation on the Côte d'Azur was followed by a draw in Nantes (2-2). A rather happy result since at 2-0 for them, the Canaries had a 3-0 ball, a strike from Abline failing on the posts of Larsonneur's goals. This point brought back from Nantes will be the only point taken by ASSE during this first part of the season, in eight trips. Dall'Oglio's team then lost at (2-4), with Abdelhamid completely overwhelmed and replaced at half-time, at (0-1) where ASSE did well, then in (0-5) in a meeting marked by the expulsion of Cafaro, for a deliberate handball in the penalty area, and finally in (1-2) despite Stassin's opening score. With 1 point out of 24 and 27 goals conceded in 8 trips, the Greens are the dunces of the elite away from home.
