After Lopes, Descamps makes his move at OL – Olympique Lyonnais

Arriving at Olympique Lyonnais this summer, Rémy Descamps will not be content with the role of number 2 goalkeeper. The former Parisian is ambitious and dreams of winning a title as a starter with Les Gones.

At Olympique Lyonnais, Anthony Lopes’ recent media outing went badly. The demoted goalkeeper has a hard time with his situation and regrets not existing in the hierarchy established by Pierre Sage. For his part, Rémy Descamps obtained the number 2 place behind Lucas Perri. But the summer reinforcement will not be satisfied with it forever. It was indeed the lack of competition that pushed him to leave where the incumbent Alban Lafont was untouchable.

« Unfortunately, I didn’t seeconfided the former Canary to the daily Ouest-. Me, I have always been very professional and I always wanted to respect the team. I always told myself that if the coach chose Alban and that could allow us to win the Coupe de France, then it was the right choice. So I turned my back. But I have personal regrets. With Lafont, we were work colleagues. We didn’t have any real relationships. »

« I would have liked to continue in Nantes yes because the club, the city and the atmosphere were greatrecognized Rémy Descamps. Afterwards, I had different requirements from the club. I had ambition – I still have it today – it’s certain that I didn’t want to limit myself to a number 2 role. » The goalkeeper trained at Saint-Germain had therefore refused to continue negotiations with a view to an extension in Nantes.

Descamps warns Sage

« There is a proposal for an extension in November 2023, except that I saw the focus of the negotiation… it was not going in the right directionhe explained. I preferred to say no straight away and sharply. There were no discussions afterwards. I would have liked a little competition to be established… » Bitter, Rémy Descamps especially regrets the two Coupe de France finals finally awarded to Alban Lafont in 2022 and 2023.

« Not having played in these two Coupe de France finals will remain a great regret in my career. I would have loved to step onto the pitch at the Stade de France. Obviously, it’s still a goal that I set for myself. It’s not over », announced Rémy Descamps, who hopes to take advantage of a turnover in this competition in , until a possible final. Rhone coach Pierre Sage has been warned.
