Anti-Semitism on the rise. Since the attacks perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, 2023 in Israel, acts against the Jewish community have increased on French territory.
According to a study published Friday October 4 by the Foundation for Political Innovation (Fondapol), anti-Semitic prejudices know “ a worrying progression » within the population of Muslim faith or culture in France.

« The degree of religiosity and the intensity of practices have a determining effect in the sharing and dissemination of anti-Semitic prejudices », notes the investigation carried out by Fondapol. Thus, 53% of Muslims who take a religion course in a Koranic school believe that the Shoah was “ used by the Jews to justify the creation of Israel », compared to 38% of respondents who do not take such courses.

86% of Jews say they fear being victims of an anti-Semitic act
Still according to the study, French Muslims who call themselves practitioners “ regular » 50% have observed anti-Semitic remarks made by people around them. A percentage which rises to 39% among practitioners “ casual » and 15% among non-practitioners.
Furthermore, 22% of French people of Muslim faith have sympathy for the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.

Concern is growing among those primarily concerned. 86% of Jews say they fear being victims of an anti-Semitic act since the October 7 attack in Israel. Finally, 76% of respondents believe that anti-Semitism is “ widespread in France », i.e. 12 points more than the figure observed in 2022 during the previous edition of the survey.
