In 2015, the capital club had turned around a very bad situation to overcome Chelsea and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Brazilian defender remembers it.
In the list of legendary matches of the PSG, the eighth final return leg against Chelsea in March 2015 figures prominently. That day, the capital club had snatched a draw at Stamford Bridge thanks to a late goal from Thiago Silva (2-2). However, PSG were playing with ten against eleven after the expulsion of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the first half. In an interview with PSG media, Marquinhos looked back on this match and the lively discussions in the locker room.

” It was such a difficult match against a team that we were facing a lot at that time. I think it was important to show that we were here to do important things. And I think that all the speeches from all the captains, from all the leaders who were in the locker room that day were very important. It gave us strength. They motivated us so that we could play with ten men and perform well. And we succeeded! We didn’t give up until the very last minute, we snatched this qualification ” confided the captain of the PSG.
“A very difficult match”
After this qualification, the joy was immense. “I remember the emotion and the joy that it was after that match. That night, I played right back and I think that everyone made an incredible effort during that match, during extra time too. And it was really a very demanding match and a very difficult match, very testing for us, as a team, as a group. And the locker room, the talk, that day, it was very important.” said Marquinhos.
