AJA. suffers heavy losses on the 2024 balance sheet

AJ lost money to return to Ligue 1. And now that it's done, the prospects are better for the business of the grumpy club.

Notwithstanding the losses recorded last season, the outlook is rather good for AJ Auxerre. It is implicitly one of the reflections associated with the financial report for the 2023-2024 financial year of the Burgundian club that Sports consulted. First of all, sportingly, AJA only made an express return to Ligue 2, before returning to Ligue 1 last May.

Economically then, the club says it has successfully passed the examination of its forecast budget before the National Directorate of Control and Management (DNCG) which “welcomed the management and performances”, as well as “the arrival of Chinese sponsors” .

A little more than €13 million in losses for the AJA in 2024

AJ Auxerre has, otherwise, lost 13.184 million euros net on the balance sheet of June 30, 2024. A deficit which follows another at 6.5 million a year earlier. Obviously, by going from the elite of French football to its antechamber, turnover has dropped. It is for the 2023-2024 season and excluding trading operations, of 16.484 million euros, down 37% on 2023.

In detail, rights and commercial revenues dominate, at 6.7 million the first, 5.5 million the others. In addition, ticketing 1.9 million and merchandising, 1.7 million euros.

The expansion of the stadium among the prospects mentioned

Like turnover, operating expenses decreased in 2024. But the ratio is lower, with a drop of 12% over the previous season. First item of expenditure, the payroll of the workforce, social charges included, was reduced by 24%, to 22.8 million euros at the end of June 30.

Finally, in terms of prospects, AJ Auxerre mentions three: the development of financial and social relations with China – its commercial brands and sports teams -, the extension of the Abbé-Deschamps stadium and the rejuvenation of the workforce .
