Stade Rennais plunged into crisis by losing the Breton derby against Brest (1-2) this weekend. Is a descent to L2 to be feared for the current 14th in L1? This is our debate of the day…
“Not safe at all”
“A catastrophe quickly happened, and be careful, going down to L2 doesn’t just happen to others! Stade Rennais is not immune. At mid-season, his lights are clearly red: a 14th place, four defeats in the last five days, an inglorious elimination in the Coupe de France… The observation is clear: Frederic Massara completely missed his recruitment campaign. last summer, and Jorge Sampaoli's debut on the bench was very disappointing, even catastrophic.
By choosing to part ways with Julien Stéphan, the Rennes board did not necessarily have a hollow nose. Not sure that Stéphan was the right fuse… In any case since his departure the results have not improved. I wrote in these columns when Sampaoli arrived that I was skeptical, that the marriage would not necessarily be happy. Today the SRFC has sunk into crisis and I am not at all convinced that Sampaoli is the right coach to restore the situation. If the poor results continue, I would not be surprised if he decides to turn heel, or if management presses the button. In any case, there is a real urgency for results because the SRFC has the same number of points as the current barrage, ASSE. And among the Greens, another dynamic, more positive, has just been initiated with the arrival on the bench of Eirik Horneland. Nantes has also been doing better since the start of the year. And ahead, Reims is 4 points, Angers 5 points, Auxerre too. Be careful, therefore, not to see yourself looking too good, especially since the Breton club is absolutely not prepared to hold on. »

“There are many weaker ones”
“Let us be clear: Stade Rennais is catastrophic. And for the moment, the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli has done more harm than good to the Rouge et Noir. The Argentinian does not have the players to develop his football based on possession and offensive drive. He knows it and therefore changes his nature, which gives purges like the match against OM (1-2), lost after playing in defense.
-After the setback against Brest (1-2), SRFC is now 14th, tied on points – supreme humiliation – with FC Nantes and ASSE. Should we fear relegation? I don't think so. Already because the last two places seem promised to Montpellier and Le Havre, who are incredibly weak. The Héraultais certainly beat Monaco (2-1) this weekend but it looks like the last gasp of the dying man. There remains the position of roadblocker. How can we imagine that Rennes could be overtaken by AS Saint-Etienne to whom it passed five goals with great ease for Sampaoli's first at Roazhon Park? Or an FC Nantes which certainly won the derby first leg (1-0) but which did not show itself superior in the game, quite the contrary, while it was going through its best moment of the season. Reims and Angers should also be affected by this fight to avoid the place of barrier.
I think that in Rennes, the big problem at the moment is trust. A success and the machine will leave, to settle quietly in the middle of the table. I don't believe in relegation at all; neither is the position of roadblocker…”
