This Tuesday afternoon, the CNE of the FFF, now chaired by Frédéric Thiriez, published a press release to return to the speech of Pablo Longoria last Sunday after the match between OM and the RCSA.
The Marseille leader has the right to a sermon from the body which reminds us that the referee is a human who can sometimes make mistakes and that discrediting him by accusing him of showing partiality in his decision-making is contrary to the spirit of Football.
The National Council of Ethics (CNE) and Football Deontology, after having taken note of the declarations of President Pablo Longoria following the Olympique de Marseille-RC Strasbourg match (1-1) on Sunday January 19, 2025 (photo), counting for the French Ligue 1 championship, wishes to warn all football players, first and foremost the managers, against any public remarks likely to discredit the refereeing function.
Several incidents of this nature have been reported in recent times. The referee is a human being, subject like all of us to errors, even if the technical progress made over several years reduces their scope. It remains that error is part of the game. For this reason, it is permitted to discuss an arbitral decision, or even to criticize it, while respecting the duty of reserve prescribed by the Charter of Ethics. What is prohibited, however, and the rule is the same for court decisions, is to bring arbitration into disrepute.
-Accusing the refereeing body as a whole of systematic bias to the detriment of a club, with the ulterior aim of uniting its supporters around it or worse, of intimidating the referees in the hope of obtaining a more “successful” arbitration. lenient” in the future, is a serious breach of ethics and an unacceptable attack on the image of football.
The National Council of Ethics and Professional Conduct will be particularly vigilant on this point.
