The crushing defeat in the Coupe de France against Troyes (0-1) on Wednesday caused an earthquake at Stade Rennais. Very upset, the club management decided to act firmly. According to information from Ouest France, under the leadership of president Arnaud Pouille, supported by sports director Frederic Massara and coach Jorge Sampaoli, four players have been sidelined from the main group and will train separately until at further notice.
On departure by the end of the Mercato?
Among those excluded are two expensive recruits from last summer: Albert Gronbaek, Danish striker recruited for 12 million euros, and Glen Kamara, Finnish midfielder costing 7 million. These two transfers, already considered disappointing, demonstrate an insufficient return on investment. Gauthier Gallon and Baptiste Santamaria complete the list of those sanctioned.
This shock decision comes as President Pouille, visibly exasperated, made a strong intervention with the group, already marked by a night of waiting in Troyes because of the fog. These sidelinings illustrate a desire to strike hard in a context of disappointing performances. The exit door seems wide open for the players concerned, a few weeks before the closure of the winter transfer window.
