The winter transfer window of AS Saint-Étienne has not yet seen any major developments. However, a persistent rumor reported the Greens' interest in Timothy Oumathe young 20-year-old Kenyan midfielder playing for IF Elfsborg in Sweden. Already tracked this summer, Ouma's versatile profile seemed to correspond to the expectations of the Saint-Etienne staff, looking for reinforcements for the second part of the season.
An attractive profile for ASSE
Capable of evolving as a sentinel or a relayer, Timothy Grandma provides valuable tactical versatility. His reading of the game, his quality of passing to break the lines and his forward projection attracted many European clubs. Despite his young age, he has already accumulated 23 matches in an Allsvenskan with 1 goal and 1 assist, as well as 13 matches in European Cups (2 goals, 1 assist). His endurance and playing intelligence allow him to adapt to different systems, a major asset for the game advocated by Horneland in the middle.
Negotiations already started last summer
ASSE's interest in Ouma is not new. Already during the summer transfer window, the Saint-Etienne leaders had tried to recruit him, but their offer was rejected by Elfsborg. This winter, negotiations were reactivated according to the Swedish tabloid Expressen. Elfsborg sporting director Stefan Andreasson confirmed “ongoing discussions with clubs” and Ouma's absence from the training in Spain suggested a possible departure.
Slavia Prague takes a head start
Although Saudi clubs have made financially attractive offers, Timothy Grandma favored an ambitious sporting project. Among the serious contenders, le Slavia Prague took a head start according to Sportbladet. An agreement in principle has even been found between the two clubs on the transfer compensation, all that remains is to obtain final validation from the Elfsborg board of directors.
Ouma's final choice
After several days of reflection, Timothy Ouma has made his choice : he should join Slavia Prague in the coming days. By joining this club, regularly in contention for the Czech title and accustomed to European games, the young midfielder offers himself the opportunity to continue his progress in a competitive championship. ASSE definitely seems doubled on this issue, barring an unlikely last minute reversal.
