Evann Guessand shines in Nice.
Author of a superb season, Evann Guessand is by far Nice's best player in recent months. Courted in the Premier League, the Ivorian striker has everything to become a major player in the years to come.
Nice's best player in 2023-2024? Marcin Bulka. The Polish goalkeeper has had a string of very high-level performances to the point of refusing several extension offers to try his hand at a more upscale club in the near future.
If the goalkeeper who passed through Paris Saint-Germain has fallen into line, one of his partners has clearly stood out since the arrival of Franck Haise: Evann Guessand (23 years old).
Guessand takes care of everything in Nice
After two successive loans to Lausanne-Sport in 2021-2022 and to Nantes in 2022-2023, the Ivorian striker has finally found his place at the Gym. His last campaign (7 goals and 2 assists in 38 matches) showed great promise, he who participated in all the Aiglons' matches, whether for a handful of seconds against Lyon, in August 2023, or to compete every minute (7 times). A season to allow him to prepare for his new role.
His new role? That of the club's offensive leader. After 25 games, Guessand is already having his best career season with 9 goals and 5 assists. A promising result. But Guessand is above all a riot of incessant energy, an ability to pierce defenses thanks to his long compasses, a sometimes astonishing technique for slipping between two, three, four or even five opponents and a versatility that is very appreciated despite his great height (1.88m).
A big transfer this summer?
All Nice supporters inevitably asked themselves this question: where would Nice be without Guessand? Probably below 4th place in Ligue 1, a competition where he has already scored 8 times, only three points behind the two top scorers, namely Jonathan David and Mason Greenwood. In the championship, he is also the 3rd most decisive player (12 goals and offerings), the 5th to create actions leading to a goal, the 5th to cause the most fouls and the 8th to successfully complete the most dribbles.
Extended until June 2028 last August, the Elephant has grown in size with a market value estimated at 20 million euros according to the specialist site Transfermarkt. A price which could soar if it continues its momentum while West Ham and Tottenham are closely following its exponential growth. If a transfer in this winter transfer window seems unlikely given the objectives of the Riviera team, it would not be surprising to see Nice overwhelmed by offers in the off-season.
