Olympique de Marseille intends to strengthen itself during this winter transfer window, but before bringing in new players, the club must first reduce its squad.
In defense, three players are starting: Chancel Mbemba, Lilian Brassier and Bamo Meïté. All three are no longer in Roberto De Zerbi's plans, especially after the arrival of Luiz Felipe, and are looking for a new base. If departures seemed uncertain for the moment, a Ligue 1 club could offer them an unexpected way out.
Stade Rennais, looking for reinforcements for the second half of the season, is particularly interested in these three defenders. Although the Rennes management is exploring other avenues, notably in Serie A, where a Genoa defender is under surveillance, Lilian Brassier would be particularly in a good position to join the Breton club. After recruiting Brice Samba and Seko Fofana to strengthen its team, Rennes seems ready to invest again to strengthen its defense.
If negotiations are progressing quickly for Brassier, the situation of Mbemba and Meïté remains more vague. However, with a transfer window which has only just begun, nothing is decided yet and Rennes could well score a nice blow by recovering these players in difficulty from OM.
