Didier Deschamps will no longer be the coach of the French team after 2026. A shock for the followers of the Blues, who already endorse Zinédine Zidane.
Whether we like him or not, Didier Deschamps embodied the role of coach better than anyone. Arriving from OM in 2012, he has not left the French team since. His term runs until 2026, when he promised to quit this week. Deschamps at the head of the Blues is at least a world champion title in 2018, a World Cup final four years later, a Euro final in 2016 and a Nations League in 2021. A regularity which has makes French supporters happy and they reciprocate it.
France loves Deschamps but also his departure
The results of the latest survey Odoxa are final. 83% of those questioned have a good opinion of the coach. The last Euro 2024 during which France was often boring therefore had no weight. The adjectives that come up the most to describe Didier Deschamps are “competent” for 87% of respondents, “friendly” (80%) and “unifying” (77%). Above all, public opinion overwhelmingly considers him to be the best coach in history (70%).
Paradoxically, this plebiscite is not accompanied by regrets concerning the future departure of Deschamps. In fact, 62% of French people and even 75% of football fans believe that “ his departure is a good thing for the France team, probably waiting for a more pleasant game to watch “. His successor is not debated. 65% of French people and 71% of football fans want Zinédine Zidane to be the coach of the French team from 2026. Zizou is clearly ahead of his runner-up Thierry Henry, desired by 12% of voters. Enough to ensure a peaceful transition between the two former teammates from Juventus and the Blues.
