Olympique Lyonnais is preparing to turn the page on Ernest Nuamah. The Ghanaian winger, recruited for 28 million euros from Nordsjaelland via Molenbeek, will join Everton in the Premier League. After a complicated spell in Lyon, where he never managed to win, Nuamah was pushed towards the exit. Already this summer, Fulham tried to recruit him, but the player ultimately gave up on joining the London club. Six months later, things have changed and a deal is almost done with Everton, according to Foot Market.
A Necessary but Unprofitable Sale
The amount of the transfer would amount to around 19 million euros, a sum much lower than OL’s initial investment. This departure is part of the club’s desire to reduce its payroll and meet the requirements of the DNCG. Despite persistent interest from Fulham and Brentford, Everton was able to convince the Lyon leaders. This operation nevertheless represents a significant financial loss for Lyon, which hoped for more from its young winger.
An Unsuitable Profile for the Lyon Project
Arriving with a lot of expectations, Ernest Nuamah never really found his place under the different technical directions of OL. His profile did not correspond to the tactical needs of Pierre Sage, and his performances did not make it possible to reverse the trend. This transfer allows the Rhone club to rebalance its workforce and focus on recruits more suited to its sporting project.
OL Ready to Turn the Page
With this departure, OL continues its downsizing operation and actively prepares the rest of its transfer window. The sale of Nuamah could provide room to strengthen the team, in the hope of turning around an already complicated season.
