This winter, Olympique Lyonnais is likely to make a name for itself in the winter transfer window. Indeed, the Rhone club is in the sights of the DNCG and will have to sell. Questioned on this subject today at a press conference, Pierre Sage could not have been clearer: “I feel a much more positive climate than last August. The players are focused on the important deadlines that await us. I don’t see any signs of players training with the idea of leaving. In August, these signals were noticeable, but this is not the case. If players wish to speak to me about their situation, I am available. My role remains above all focused on the game, the pitch and their behavior. Concerning their career, there are people at the club better placed than me to advise them” he declared, ensuring that the club’s situation does not in any way impact group life.
Sage congratulates Deschamps!
He then spoke on the DNCG: “We don’t talk about it much. We trust and support leaders. I am never certain about the decisions of the organizations, but we will take responsibility for the decisions, as we have always done” he said before confiding in Nemanja Matic and Thiago Almada: “Nemanja is a very important player for us. We will do everything to make sure he stays. The club’s desire is clear: we want to keep it. Thiago is expected potentially in the coming hours. However, until nothing is official, there is no point in talking about it. If his arrival materializes, we will work to balance the workforce accordingly.”
Finally, he concluded by mentioning the departure of Didier Deschamps: “I find that the announcement of his departure is well placed in time. This avoids linking your decision to future performance. When Aimé Jacquet announced his departure after being world champion, it was a great exit. But in the case of Deschamps, announcing early is courageous. This reflects a process and reflection over time. I would like to congratulate him for this decision as well as for everything he has accomplished with the team.”
