Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder/striker aged 28 and under contract until 2026, has been struggling lately and has been rather sidelined by coach Luis Enrique. So the idea of a departure in the transfer window takes hold. The Team said this Friday that this is indeed the idea for this winter, even if it is still difficult to complete.
« Several markets were surveyed. »
“The capital club has opened the door to the Spanish striker and they would like to find him a base this winter. PSG wants to be active during the January transfer window – ideally, it hopes to attract two to three recruits – and it has targeted several elements of its workforce likely to reduce the payroll and/or give it resources. Among which Asensio, therefore. (…) A situation which has caused some tension in recent weeks and led him to resolve to consider what happens next far from Paris.
Several markets have been surveyed and there are leads in England and Spain, but nothing concrete at the moment. And for good reason: the main obstacle is his salary, considered disproportionate in view of his current output (€830,000 gross monthly).
Part of the solution lies in what PSG will be prepared to accept – taking over part of their income, for example. Ideally, the club would like to bag a transfer and the possibility of seeing Asensio join a more exotic destination cannot be ruled out, even if it is not his priority. »
Asensio has played very little in fact for several weeks, even if the media have highlighted it less than for Randal Kolo Muani or Milan Skriniar. Without knowing exactly why, especially since the Spaniard seemed to have imposed himself more. But he clearly disappointed coach Luis Enrique and other players have moved ahead in the hierarchy.
-In any case, a departure would clearly make sense for both the player and PSG. The difficulty is finding a way out. It may take an effort, whether from the club, the Spaniard or both. Let’s wait for the moment, nothing is certain.
But it is of course one of the issues of this winter, it remains to be seen whether a concrete possibility can emerge for Asensio.
