“This second prevention action aims to protect people in their mobility, so that they can travel safely by bicycle,” announces Joel Lafontaine. Groupama thus offered 15 complete pieces of equipment including vests, helmets and reflective strips.

Secours Catholique already known for its bike workshop

The Secours Catholique d'Athis branch is, in fact, known and recognized for its bicycle workshop. This stock of around thirty two-wheelers, prepared by the team, allows them to lend bikes to offer mobility solutions to those who need them.

“Jean-Luc, one of the beneficiaries, who lives in Ségrie, benefited from a loan for 9 months, he does everything by bike. For a more active job search, a car is also made available for a period of one month,” explains Jean-Michel Caillèrehead of the Secours Catholique d'Athis team.

“This inclusive inclusion is rare,” underlines Gérard Huet, vice-president of the Secours Catholique Orne- delegation.

Meet mobility needs

Our action at the service of Secours Catholique involves these bicycles, which are all donated and made available to beneficiaries on loan. We respond in particular to the mobility needs of migrants and refugees, we cover Orne and Calvados.

Around ten bikes were also prepared for Christmas by these little elves with big hearts: “our repair team focused on this mission for a few weeks to deliver bikes on time to Flers, Condé and Ferté-Macé”, list the team leader.

Solidarity actions

“In partnership with the Solibam associationdomiciled in Château-Gontier, five bicycles were also donated among the 30 shipped to a learning center in agri-ecological agriculture in Burkina Faso, in which a bicycle is given to each young person who participates in the training,” explains one of the workshop volunteers.

The workshop is available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Bréel store, ABCyclette is a partner of the association in terms of parts

Organize a Bike Day

” Of the workshops on demand are organized on Saturday mornings with young people, we guide them to introduce them to repairs and safety,” adds Jean-Michel.

The manager wishes “ organize a Bike Daywith the idea of ​​promoting two-wheeled travel and their energy efficiency, defended by our team, with this desire to make an effort for the planet.”

Mobilization of small levers

On the sidelines of this mobilization around bicycles, the action of Secours Catholique remains “the unconditional welcome of all people and their long-term support”, recalls Gérard Huet. In conjunction with social workers, the association mobilizes small levers, such as actions in the budget management.

“But we don’t do it for them, we advise them and guide them. And some then become volunteers and join the team. This is how small streams make big rivers,” underlines Jean-Michel Caillère.

“The latest report on poverty highlights the lack of access to rights, more than 40% of people who are entitled toRSA (active solidarity income) do not receive it, because they are discouraged, due to lack of access to administrations and mobility problems to get there,” adds Gérard Huet.
