Club: “One Team”, or how PSG tries to standardize its style of play

Luis Enrique and his staff spoke before the break with the PSG training and pre-training coaches. An exchange which is part of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi's desire to standardize the playing identity of all the club's teams. A policy which now even has an internal name: the “One Team” project.

It could be a manga or boy band name, but it's not. For several months, PSG has been communicating internally on a project called « One Team » (a team in French) and inspired by its president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. As this anglicism suggests, the idea is that all PSG teams become one and draw inspiration from the playing model of the first team coached by Luis Enrique.

From pre-training to the first team, through the U17s and U19s of the training center, the ambition is for PSG to have a well-identified style of play, with a playing pattern identical to all teams (in The 4-3-3 occurs on paper, even if in reality, Luis Enrique's tactical animation is much more complex, with the ball in particular). The purpose? May the most talented young people at PSG end up in the first team and not be disoriented when it comes time to join the flag team.

PSG wants the same playing identity for all its teams

According to Le Parisien, Luis Enrique, Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi share this common ambition to create a real playing identity specific to PSG and which could be found at all levels of the club. Luis Enrique was immersed in this at Barça and integrated several young people into his 2024/2025 squad. The Asturian often repeats that age is not a selection criterion for him and that anyone can play under him, provided they have the required level of course.

Mahamadou Sangaré, who has been training with the PSG first team for several weeks after shining in the Youth League (8 goals), usually plays as a center forward, but started as a right winger against PSV Eindhoven on 22 last October in the Youth League. According to Le Parisien, this was a request from the sports management, who wanted to see him in this position before promoting him to first team training.

For his part, Luis Enrique has historically always liked to rely on young players, whether at club or national level, and was able to repeat this to PSG trainers on December 13 during an exchange lasting more than two hours. at the Campus. According to Le Parisien, the Spaniard confirmed on this occasion to PSG educators that he wanted to get seriously involved in this “One Team” project.

“This experience allowed us to value the direction we are all taking together”

“This experience was very interesting and constructive, because it allowed us to share our ideas and promote the direction that we are all taking together, at Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique told the club’s official website. She also highlighted the work carried out on a daily basis at the PSG Campus. We are always looking to improve and will therefore repeat this type of initiative several times during the season, in order to continue moving forward together. »

“The “One Team” project is now well anchored in

“This moment of enriching exchanges and sharing between the technical staff of the professional team and all the members of the Training was particularly valuable, Luis Campos, for his part, welcomed this. Listening to Luis Enrique talk about his experiences and explain the principles of his playing model will remain a memorable moment. A late afternoon dedicated to reflection and progress, both individual and collective, in the service of the club. With a project as ambitious as ever: that of seeing ever more players from the training center join the professional team. The “One Team” project is now well anchored in Poissy. »

Sports director of the PSG training center, Yohan Cabaye was also present on December 13 at the Campus during the exchange between Luis Enrique and the club's trainers. The former French international is also delighted that the whole club is pushing in the same direction: “This meeting perfectly illustrates the philosophy of Paris Saint-Germain, based on exchange, transmission and the quest for excellence. It strengthened the links between our Training and our professional team, while emphasizing the importance of building a common identity. These moments of unity and collective reflection allow us to better align our methods and objectives, with a view to ensuring continued progression for our young talents and, more broadly, for the Club as a whole. »

“The goal is not to win the Champions League this year, but to have our style”

As Nasser Al-Khelaïfi repeated on the sidelines of the inauguration of the PSG Campus on November 21, PSG's new policy is more than ever focused on youth and training. And when RMC Sport asked him if PSG was trying to imitate Barça's famous sporting policy, the Parisian president retorted: “Copy Barça? For me, we don't want to copy anyone. We take our identity. This is the identity of PSG, it comes from young people. Look at the fields of our young people. The young people know how the first team plays. We have experienced players, and young ones too. The goal is not to win the Champions League this year, but to have our style. »
