Paulo Fonseca is no longer the coach of AC Milan, the Italian club announced this Monday morning. Sunday, on the occasion of the 18th day of Serie A, the vagueness around the future of the Portuguese technician caused a lunar evening.
The main party announced the news himself on Sunday, behind the wheel of his car leaving the stadium. As expected, AC Milan formalized the dismissal of Paulo Fonseca this Monday, December 30, only six months after his arrival from Lille, on July 1.

“AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the men’s first team,” reads the AC Milan press release. “The club thanks Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him every success in his future endeavors.”
In difficulty in the championship (8th, 13 points from the podium), Paulo Fonseca knew he was threatened. Sunday, the match against AS Roma, counting for the 18th day of Serie A, was akin to the last chance match. Unfortunately for him, the Rossoneri could not do better than a draw (1-1). Two lost points which therefore sealed the future of the former Lille coach.
Conceiçao expected to replace him
After the match against AS Roma, while no decision had been made official, Fonseca himself announced his dismissal to journalists. “Yes, it’s true. It’s life. But I have a clear conscience. I did everything I could,” he slipped from his vehicle.
According to the Italian press, Sergio Conceiçao is expected this Monday to sign a six-month contract with an option to extend. The name of the Portuguese coach, recently announced in the sights of OM or FC Nantes, has been in the papers for several days. Even before the match against AS Roma, the transalpine media even mentioned a total agreement between the former Porto coach and AC Milan.
