Guest of the named show The Legends Studiobroadcast on Europe 1 every Friday, Lucas Chevalier justified wearing the number 30, which he has worn since his debut at LOSC.
Since the end of the 1990s, and more precisely from 1997, football players have been required to wear a single jersey number for an entire season. Now, more than twenty years later, Lucas Chevalier defends the colors of LOSC with the number 30 on his back. The latter is unusual for a goalkeeper, a position for which 1 is a more traditional choice, and frustrates Jacques Vendroux, host of the show in which the Lille goalkeeper found himself this Friday.
“The 1 is like everyone elseLucas Chevalier instinctively retorted.
He’s the goalie in his own right, his base number. In fact, when I got to the pros, I was given number 30 and I thought that was funny. First of all,
I think it's a guardian number which is beautiful, which I like, but I realized, it was not calculated in advance, that it corresponded to the addition of the days of my brother's birth and of myself. I was born on November 6, my brother on September 24. As luck would have it… You add it up and it's 30. I always told myself I was going to keep this number. It's no coincidence, it's like that. I kept it and I think I'll keep it until the end. I couldn't play with any other number, with the exception of the Coupe de France. It’s also part of the things that are part of me, of my well-being, of my confidence on the pitch”explains the man who has been playing professionally for four seasons now.
However, this does not relate to superstition, a subject that he brushes aside: “I have a routine in training, before matches. We often do the same things, the same gestures, but I refuse to say that if I haven't done that, I won't be good. That would be making excuses for nothing. If something happens in my usual routine, I refocus and it doesn't matter. We must not tell ourselves that it is because of this that I will not be good”exclaims Lucas Chevalier.
