Having arrived at ASSE a year and a half ago, Solène Champagnac is today the captain of the team playing in the Arkema Premier League. In an interview for the club website, Solène looks back at the start of the Vertes season and discusses the rest and the objectives to come!
The summer transfer window was very eventful. Since the arrival of the Kilmer Sports group, many players have not extended their contracts. On the other hand, ASSE wanted to strengthen itself with the arrival of around ten players. ASSE captain Solène Champagnac so far seems delighted with the start of the 2024-2025 season.
His wishes for his second part of the season in the ASSE jersey
“We quickly realized that we shared the same vision of football. Thanks to that, we were able to string together three victories in a row, notably against Paris FC. […] Honestly, it’s a good start to the season and it’s great!”
After winning its first three matches, ASSE then experienced more difficult times. The Greens lost 5-1. “This defeat was a hard blow for the team. We had to bring everyone together and make the whole group feel concerned by the performance we provided, in order to analyze what had happened, to recognize our mistakes, and to decide to bounce back, which we managed to do.”
Who says new year 2025, also says wishes. For the ASSE captain, it is mainly sporting issues that are targeted
“From a personal point of view, I want to continue to progress as I have done since arriving at Saint-Étienne. Apart from that, good health, avoiding injuries and continuing to flourish at the club.”
“It’s always a pleasure to come out of the locker room and see all these supporters in the stands.”
Despite the fact that the Vertes lost 3-0, for the last match of the year at Geoffrey-Guichard, a lot of positives can be highlighted. “We go into the break with 15 points, in 7th position in the standings, which is huge and in line with our objective. We will now all rest to be ready on January 8 against Reims.”
This season, the Greens can count even more on the support of their supporters. Despite the men's team traveling to Toulouse at the same time, ASSE welcomed more than 4,000 supporters to Geoffroy-Guichard.
“Compared to last season, the attendance has doubled. It’s fantastic, and we hope there will be just as many for the second part of the season because their support is crucial for us. […] It's always a pleasure to come out of the locker room and see all these supporters in the stands. We hope this continues, because we really enjoy it. “
