Announced target of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City this summer, Florian Wirtz seems closer than ever…to extending his contract to Bayer Leverkusen. At least this is the trend announced by the German press in recent days. But in a statement for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Fernando Carro revealed that nothing has yet been done about the German international's future: “It's a question about Florian Wirtz's wishes if he wants to change (club). But we also allow ourselves to say that there are not many clubs better than Bayer Leverkusen to have a chance of winning titles” he said.
Nothing done yet for Wirtz?
The general manager of the reigning German champion then spoke about the possibility of seeing the player stay this summer even if he does not sign an extension: “It will be difficult, we have to be honest. It's not impossible, but it's not what we want” he confided, while revealing that he was discussing confidentially with the 21-year-old midfielder and his family. As a reminder, the native of Pulheim, who currently has twelve goals and eight assists in the space of 25 matches in all competitions, is under contract until 2027 with the B04.
